Tale's About Brown's Springs South of Thackerville, Oklahoma East of Interstate 35 Exit 1 ============================================================== SOME LETTERS FROM THIS WEEK'S MAILBAG week of October 23, 1999 "I am very interested in going to your tour of Brown Springs. Hum will all the fuss over the Blair Witch Project seems like we could make a movie there of our own. If you have not seen the movie all you need is just a camcorder to make mega bucks." ============================================================== SOME LETTERS FROM THIS WEEK'S MAILBAG week of October 16, 1999 -------------------------------------------------------------- "Dear Butch, Leeper Lake is private and closed to sightseers." -------------------------------------------------------------- "Speaking of Brown Springs, You would have the Tour on the Spooky weekend, wouldn't you? I really want to go and will try to schedule for Saturday, but if I don't make that one, it will have to be Sunday I guess." -------------------------------------------------------------- "Butch, Put me down for the 2:00 p.m. October 31st visit." -------------------------------------------------------------- "Darn it, I already have plans for that weekend that can't be changed. At some point in time I still want to visit the place though. When I can get to Ardmore, I will get directions from you, I may have to brave the place by myself. Thanks for the info." -------------------------------------------------------------- "Hi Butch, Geese, I wish that I could be there for your tour on the 31st. Sounds like it is going to be very interesting. I know that you will keep the rest of us informed on what you see, hear, feel, or do. Thanks for the invite." -------------------------------------------------------------- "This will be fun. If you need me to help you w/ anything..let me know. And by the way, I DON"T DO SNAKES!" -------------------------------------------------------------- "Dear Butch, I wish I could be there! But as I am too, soo far away I am relying on you and 'this'n that' friends to be my ears and eyes with their cameras and videos. I shall look forward to reading all about how you got on. And I hope you dont frighten the snakes away! ha ha" -- Ireland -------------------------------------------------------------- "NOW I wish I was living in the state of Oklahoma, instead of Houston. I would be there ready to go. You all have a great fun day and take a lot of good pictures, including of yourselves, so we can all see them. You will need to do a special scrapbook for all of us back home. Since I cannot journey all the way up there, I will drive over to the tiny community of Burton, Tx., and attend their annual Halloween Carnival, but will be thinking of you all." -------------------------------------------------------------- "Will be there. If nothing happens . Barb" -------------------------------------------------------------- "DO YOU HAVE PHOTOS OF THE BOYS AT LEEPER LAKE THAT WERE SHOOTING THE SNAKES? I THINK ONE OF THEM MAY BE MY NEPHEW. IF SO COULD YOU SEND ME EMAIL OF THEM.? THANKS" -------------------------------------------------------------- "Would like to see what other images were found. You may have to "point them out" to me. Maybe I'm not open to paranormal communications!" -------------------------------------------------------------- "Butch, before I read the letter about other faces in the grave pic, I had already seen several, including the DEVIL on the right side on the stone itself! All together I count 10 faces, including the Devil's. And NO I DO NOT want to go, thank you anyway. HAHA" ============================================================== SOME LETTERS FROM THIS WEEK'S MAILBAG week of October 10, 1999 "I E-mailed a gal in OK and asked her, if we have time when I'm out there, if she'd like to go to the now famous springs. She's interested. My daughter wants to go but she won't fly! She's never been on a plane and says that's the way she wants to keep it! I do not like flying at all. But, it's the quickest and easiest way to get from point A to point B." -------------------------------------------------------------- "OK you big baby! Let's go Halloween Night!" -------------------------------------------------------------- "Did I tell you that we found several more faces in that NOW FAMOUS gravestone photo? Look in the bottom left corner. The face we saw looks, we think, demonic. Above that, to the right, a tad, looks like a very anguished face with an open mouth, as if screaming. About an inch or two above that one, there's a face of what looks like a little boy with short hair. He seems to be just looking." ------------------------------------------------------------- "I drove down that road once but don't think I made it to the springs. That place gives you the creeps in the daytime!!!!!!!!!!!! This was before I knew anything about the history of the place. I might volunteer to go with you but will have to take my pistol just in case of problems." ------------------------------------------------------------- "It all sounds so unreal and yet I seen the face in your pic. I have to admit this has certainly got my attention as I am sure it has for lots of people. I would go with you to check this out! Isn't there a saying about cowards going in a cluster? ha ha" ------------------------------------------------------------- "If I can survive the traffic in NYC and Washington DC, I can survive your Brown Springs experience. That is if you still need someone to go with you." ------------------------------------------------------------- "Now Butch that is really a challenge. I love mysteries But...I was told It might not be a healthy place to visit...But oh well you only live once.. We need to get up a group to go..So I guess if you are game then let me know when." ------------------------------------------------------------- "I would love to visit the grave site you wrote about...the one of which the image of a child's face appeared on the photo you took. That's just right up my alley - and no I am not a kook - just enjoy things of this nature. My grandmother was part Chickasaw Indian and our "bedtime" stories were "ghost" stories told to her by her mother." ------------------------------------------------------------- "This is the month for another Brown Springs episode, n'est pas? Well, my daughter and I looked at all the photos. In the first one, look to the left right next to the image you pointed out, which we also saw. Just a tad down, it looked like a 3/4 view of the partial face of a woman looking right at you with fluffy gray hair. Then, don't stop there. On top of the stone in that same photo, look toward the back using the "B" in Brown for a guide. Go straight down from that and you might see a rather ghostly face with round eyes. So, we found three faces right off with no trouble. Does that mean we are crazier than you, or, that we've spent too much time looking for pictures in the clouds?" ------------------------------------------------------------- "I can clearly see the child's face and somehow (now this is spooky) I get the feeling that it is a little girl." ------------------------------------------------------------- "I looked that picture over and over, I couldn't see the child image. Help me with this one. Describe what you are seeing." ------------------------------------------------------------- "That's too cool and too weird, as soon as the pic started loading I saw the childs face... it's definately there. Ya, we may be weird. that's o.k. all anyone would have to do is take one look at us and know there's something strange about us. Hey, my family and our company saw a UFO when I was about 8 yrs old in Maljamar, NM. don't know what it was, just that it was unknown to us. The same goes for this child, sometimes I think God allow's us to see things to keep our belief in the spirit world alive. We believe in God by faith. We know there are spirits in this world, the bible tell's us so. So what's so strange???" ------------------------------------------------------------- "I wonder how many people would have seen the face had you not mentioned it? I saw it immediately, but the "power of suggestion" is a mighty weapon. Wish you had said something like, let me know if you see anything unusual in this photo shot I took at Brown Springs. Anyway, I didn't even have to go to the close up to know that I had seen the face." ------------------------------------------------------------- "Well, Butch, I don't know. I have studied the photos and studied them, I don't see anything. I'm NOT saying you didn't see anything. Stranger things have happened." ------------------------------------------------------------- "I think it would be a whole lot more spookier if we go at night. What do you think." ------------------------------------------------------------- "I volunteer to go with you to the cemetery to check out the image of the child. Just make sure the plane ticket you send me is a round-trip one." ------------------------------------------------------------- "If ya don't find a volunteer, the next time I come to Ardmore, I will go back to that cemetery with you. I about 3/4s believe in those sorts of things. I also remember the Old hamburger inn. I think back then hamburgers were like 12 for a dollar. I still eat at the new one when I am in Ardmore. I also remember the old Stag Bar." ------------------------------------------------------------- "Hey Butch.... I'm ready to go to Brown's Spring whenever you are.... just let me know when you want to go.... let's go in the daytime though.... no nighttime visits... ok. ha" ------------------------------------------------------------- "Hey, I'm writing to you to see if we could go with you sometime down to Browns Springs to check it out. I was telling my friend about your this-n-that story and now she wants to go see it. She asked me to contact you and see if you would take us or go with us down there. This is one brave gal, she said she would go afterdark and no spook was going to scare her away (lol). I told her to wait and we would get you to go with us and give us the tour in the day time. Want to go?" ============================================================ SOME LETTERS FROM THIS WEEK'S MAILBAG week of September 11, 1999 "A friend sent me a copy of your newsletter, and i wish i could be on the mail list. Very interesting stuff. I'm glad i'm not the only one who thinks brown springs, up by thackerville is a strange place. About 23 years ago, me, my wife, and her brother, were riding around, and ended up at that place. Middle of the day, parked the car at the bottom of the hill where the water comes out. climbed up the hill, was only one faint trail into the woods, over the barbed wire fence, into the cemetary. the farther we walked in the trees, the darker it got. then we started noticing graves that were dug up. A few bones scattered. we got spooked and headed back to the car. Only to find NOW the trail was full of sticker patches, and i was barefooted. The stickers weren't there going in??? then, the car wasn't where we left it. It was down the road a ways.. can't explain it, but we all remember it. got the heck out of there, haven't been back. We still get chill bumps when we talk about it." ============================================================ SOME LETTERS FROM THIS WEEK'S MAILBAG week of August 28, 1999 "I think we are all still stuck on Brown Springs! That was some story and gives me the chills each time I think of it. Places like that were so much evil was done in the past seem to keep drawing evil people like flies. Keep up the good work!" ============================================================ SOME LETTERS FROM THIS WEEK'S MAILBAG week of August 21, 1999 "A good Sunday Morning to you Butch, Was just reading your t&t news letter and especially liked the story about Brown's Springs....that is really interesting and sounds like it would make a good movie. A few years ago I saw a movie called "The mountains have eyes". The movie took place out west in New Mexico or Arizona where some mountain people would kidnap unwary vacationers camping out by their motor homes and travel trailers. They would cook and eat their victims." ------------------------------------------------------------- "Have really been enjoying your newsletter each week...give us some more info on the Brown's Spring story.... (Big Foot maybe?) You've really wet our appetite!!!!" ------------------------------------------------------------- "After reading the stories about Brown Spring's, brings back old memories. One Halloween my friend and I went riding around with some guys from Thackerville, OK. They decided they would take us to Brown Springs to scare us. We were trying to act brave, so I started up the hill to the old grave yard to show them where it was, (I had been there in the day time) over half way up we hear chanting and see smoke from a camp fire, I thought I was being set up for the ultimate scare, so I was being brave and trying to play along, till we came to a knife stabbed in a tree, with fresh blood on it. We all saw it at the same time, I blamed it on the boys, but after seeing the look on their faces, I knew it was time to get out of there!! All four of us were so terrified we could not even scream, we got in the truck, and no one said a word till we were back on highway 77 headed to town. I was told later that devil worshiper "wanna be's" went up there and sacrificed small animals as a part of a seance type ordeal. I didn't care what it was it terrified me. That was back in 1990. I have been up to the cemetery again since then in the daytime "only" and found some pretty neat history as far as the tombstones. My husband and I have drove on that road a hundred times going to the river to fish, and camp just southeast of the Springs, and have never had anything crazy happen, but that doesn't mean the hair doesn't stand up on my arms everytime we are there!!" ============================================================ SOME LETTERS FROM THIS WEEK'S MAILBAG week of August 14, 1999 "The tale I got about Brown's Spring involved a nameless family in southern Oklahoma at the turn of the century. These kind people would kill unwary travelers and rob them. The men in this clan of evil people would imprison, torture, rape, and eventually kill any unwary women that they had a chance to capture. The patriarch of the family would "Break In" the females born to the clan and then pass them around to the other uncles, brothers, cousins, etc. The story goes that one day a Choctaw girl was abducted by the patriarch and raped. The girl fled after she escaped and the elders of her family came back, in the night, and captured the patriarch. The girls family staked the evil man to the ground and sliced open his belly so that Hattak Offi/The Man Dog of that area could have a good meal with out having to work for it. Another name for Hattak Offi is Nalusa or Nalushka Falaya which translates to Long Evil Being or Long Wicked Person. (Bigfoot?) Anyway, the girls family came back the next morning and sure enough the evil man's soft organs, (heart, liver, kidneys) were missing and his entrails were spread all over the place. The girl's family then took the body of the evil patriarch and threw it into Brown's spring to curse the spring to any that would rely on it for water. (Namely the bad guys in the area.) It is said that the evil patriarch's family still has descendants in the area, and that his ghost haunts that area at night. I learned this in a gang rape investigation in January of 1985 when I worked at Healdton Police Dept. I arrested a descendant of the original family on a rape complaint and in the ensuing investigation dug up some really wild sounding stuff." ============================================================ end
