Another week of off and on rain. I know a lot of people are wishing the rain would stop. This area is soaked. If you're in a vehicle and get off the pavement, you're stuck. And they are predicting 1 or 2 more inches of rain over the next 24 hours.

B. T. Tankersley of Milo has a rare old violin on display. The instrument bears the Andreas Amati label of 1614. Tankersley said the fiddle has been in his family for more than a century. According to Tankersley the fiddle has passed through several wars and has furnished music for many country thing fandangos.

Q.  Deep in these Oklahoma mountains sits a uniform forest that looks like something out of a horror movie. It has over 20,000 trees, planted exactly 6 feet apart in every direction, and it’s rumored to be haunted. Where are these mountains?
A.   Deep in the Wichita Mountains Refuge in southern Oklahoma sits a uniform forest that looks like something out of a horror movie. The Parallel Forest has over 20,000 trees, planted exactly 6 feet apart in every direction, and it’s rumored to be haunted.

Here's a piece of granite I sandblasted with a motorcycle on it. I held my breath when I started sandblasting the motorcycle, but it turned out beautiful!

For those of you familiar with Pawhuska, Oklahoma I received a special request by email this week regarding a brick making company that used to be in Pawhuska. Below is the email from Chris:

"Butch, I enjoy your site, and you have been very helpful in the past in the hobby of brickcollecting. Need information on Pawhuska, Ok. Small burg north west of Tulsa, Ok. in Osage county. With respect to brick industry or brick making. Have tried many search engines, and can come up with only a website that verifies the location, just west of town, on the north side of hwy 11. Any ideas or info will help and be appreciated. Thanks." -Chris Wolford IBCA#1141

Here's an unusual item that's been in my family for many years. I do not even know what it is called. I was planning on putting it on ebay, but I dont know how to list it. Its some kind of motorized advertising or announcement box. I guess the motor inside rotates each of the 12 advertisements so anyone standing in front of it can read them. You can read on one of the mechanical arms on each side, the words "Pat Feb 27 1923". It comes with a brown canvas cover and stands 26 inches tall.

Utilities have been really climbing the last few years. My electric bill has tripled in 3 years. Three years ago it was $30 for the month of September 2004. In 2005 my electric bill was $54 and now this year for September it is $96. Ouch!

"Butch, does anyone remember the P-38 fighter plane that crashed northeast of Hennepin OK. during world war two? I can remember it well, I was in grade school in the old Homer school and our teacher, a Mr. C. L. Drennan took us over to see it. We talked about it for weeks!!" -James Singleterry

Some mail from this week's MAILBAG.....

Butch, I wanted to write you and thank you for your pallet shed webpage and plan, it gave me inspiration to build a much needed shed. I live in Western New York & had to make some modifications to withstand heavy snow loads, but for the most part I went with the basics you outlined in your plan. It took most of the summer I since I'm a father of 3 young girls and it’s hard to find stretches of several hours to work, but I made it happen. My father in law is in construction so he was able to help me with what lumber & metal siding I needed. I think all in I probably put $200 into this 16x10 shed! This winter will be the test once the white stuff starts flying. Thanks again & wish you the best. -Mike in Western NY

Note: of the several hundred webpages on my website, the Pallet Shed webpage receives the most Hits of them all.

When you were writing about the Colvert family, it reminded me of my 8th grade Sunday School teacher, Mrs. Colvert. I had just moved to Ardmore from Durant and she was so sweet and welcoming to me at the First Methodist Church. I will always remember her with fond memories. -R. Helms
