Turner Q. Poindexter

REXROAT -- Services for Turner Q. Poindexter, 70, Wilson, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rexroat Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Tolbert officiating.

Interment will be at Hewitt Cemetery under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home, Wilson.

Poindexter died Feb. 8, 1999, at his residence.

He was born Feb. 20, 1928, at Connerville, to William C. and Alice R. Lewis Poindexter.

Reared in the Bromide-Russett area, he moved to Wilson in 1949 and married Wilma L. Chester May 10, 1950, at Tishomingo. He started working for the U.S. Postal Service in 1963, was postmaster at Wilson from 1965 until 1979, when he was transferred to Ardmore. He retired in 1988. He was a longtime member of Rexroat Baptist Church, serving as deacon since 1967. He was also a member of Wilson Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, FFA, American Postal Workers Union, and at the time of his death, was president of Carter County Farmers Union.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; a daughter, Karen K. McComber, Ardmore; two sons, Larry D., Stillwater, and John P., Broken Arrow; a sister, Martha Martin, Ada; two brothers, James D., Pasadena, Texas, and Richard C., Tulsa; and five grandchildren.

Bearers will be Robert Holloway, Benny Cartwright, Verle Tolbert, David Norton, Eddie McCauley and Irvin Judd.

Honorary bearers are members of the men's Sunday school class at Rexroat Baptist Church.
